When can a Weapons Carry License be renewed?
A Weapons Carry License can be renewed within 90 days or less until the expiration of the original weapons carry license, or not more than 30 days after the license has expired.
What are the required qualifications to renew a Weapons Carry License?
Applicant must be at least 21 years of age.
- Applicants under the age of 21 are eligible for a permit if:
- they are at least 18 years of age,
- they have proof that they have completed basic training in the United States armed forces, and
- they are currently serving or have been honorably discharged from the United States armed forces (documentation will be required).
Applicant must reside in Rockdale County. The applicant must present proof of his/her residence in Rockdale County which can be accomplished in one of two ways:
- Produce a valid Georgia Driver's License or state-issued identification card that reflects a Rockdale County, Georgia physical address; or
- Prove that the applicant is domiciled in Rockdale County, which can be achieved by providing two documents linking the Applicant's name with a Rockdale County physical address.
- At least 1 of the documents provided must be a current (within the last 2 months) utility bill associated with a residence or a property tax bill, real estate deed, lease agreement, voter's registration, car registration, etc.
- 1 document can be a bank statement, credit card bill, cell phone bill, etc.
If the applicant has a P.O. Box listed on their driver's license, he/she must provide at least 2 documents showing his/her name and Rockdale County address.
- At least 1 of the documents provided must be a current (within the last 2 months) utility bill associated with a residence or property tax bill, real estate deed, lease agreement, voter's registration, car registration, etc.
- 1 document can be a bank statement, credit card bill, cell phone bill, etc.
If applicable, Applicant must provide a secondary form of identification. Acceptable documents are:
- Attach proof of your lawful presence in the United States, including any of the following that apply:
- Immigrant Alien: Resident Alien card, Permanent Resident Card or Immigrant Visa with ADIT Stamp (Alien Documentation, Identification and Telecommunication Systems). This stamp indicates your status as a lawful permanent resident, your date of admission, and date of expiration.
- Non-Immigrant (Temporary) Alien: Student Visa, Tourist Visa, Employment Authorization Card, or valid Passport with Arrival/Departure Record; proof you fall within an exemption pursuant to 18 U.S.C. 922(y)(2)
- Immigrant Alien: Resident Alien card, Permanent Resident Card or Immigrant Visa with ADIT Stamp (Alien Documentation, Identification and Telecommunication Systems). This stamp indicates your status as a lawful permanent resident, your date of admission, and date of expiration.
What documents are needed to renew a Weapons Carry License?
An applicant for a renewal of a Weapon Carry License must present proof that he/she has a valid Weapons Carry License, issued by any county in the State of Georgia. Such proof can be shown by:
- Producing the original Weapons Carry License for the Court
- Providing an original letter form the Georgia Probate Court that issued the Weapons Carry License and indicates the Weapons Carry License is valid. The letter cannot be more than 10 days old.
How much does it cost to apply for a renewal Weapons Carry License?
The total cost of a renewal Weapons Carry License is $30.00 payable to the Rockdale County Probate Court by cash, cashier’s check, money order or credit/debit card (the court accepts Visa or Mastercard). A processing fee of $4.00 is charged separately per card transaction.
If you are a retired law enforcement officer who had arresting powers and who worked ten (10) of the twelve (12) years prior to your retirement, Weapons Carry License fees are waived except for a $7.00 fee charged to create your physical license. Proof of retirement will be required upon application. You must present your current license at the time of application.
Can the Court issue a “Temporary Renewal License”?
Yes. Any person who holds a Weapons Carry License may, at the time he or she applies for a renewal of the license, also apply for a temporary renewal license if less than 90 days remain before expiration of the license he or she then holds, or if the previous license has expired within the last 30 days. A $1.00 fee shall be charged by the probate court for issuance of a temporary renewal license.
