****Newborn birth certificates are not mailed to you automatically from the State or the Probate Court. You must request those in person or online through Georgia Vital Records.

Eligible Recipients

A birth certificate is a confidential document; therefore, only the following persons can obtain the birth certificate:

  • The individual
  • The biological or adoptive parents of the individual
  • The biological or adoptive grandparents of the individual
  • The guardian or temporary guardian of the individual
  • A legal spouse
  • An adult child of the individual
  • An adult sibling of the individual

A legal guardian of a minor or incapacitated adult must present proof of his or her legal relationship to a child or incapacitated adult at the time he or she requests a birth certificate. Acceptable forms of proof include:

  • Certified copies of court orders regarding custody or
  • Letters of Guardianship that have been certified within one (1) year of the date presented.

If you were born anywhere in the State of Georgia, you may request a certified copy of your birth certificate from the Rockdale County Probate Court.

Identification Requirements

To obtain a birth certificate you must present one of the following to the Probate Clerk:

  • Georgia Driver's license or State of Georgia Identification Card unexpired or expired for not more than one year
  • State of Georgia Weapons Carry License
  • Identification Card issued by another U.S. State, jurisdiction or territory
  • Unexpired U.S. Passport or unexpired Foreign Passport
  • S. Military Identification, Military Dependent Identification, Veteran's Identification
  • Unexpired Consulate Card
  • Transportation ID
  • Debit Card with Picture
  • Employer ID Card
